The books I decided to remix are above. Both are 1960’s era manuals, both dealing with the threat of the Cold War. My initial instinct was to go anti-war, but I became more drawn to the hyper-heterosexuality present in both books. This was a result of the era, but also worth examining with a modern lens.
Early on, I developed a shape and color language that would progress from highly gendered and divided, to highly varied and inherently Queer.
The final product. All text and images were taken from the original books and collaged together.
Shape pages were printed on vellum for a transparent look. The book is pamphlet bound with yarn.
